How is Pseudomonas Aeruginosa contracted/transmitted?
P. Aeruginosa apart from being known as the opportunistic pathogen is also known as the "hospital killer". The title of the hospital killer is given, as many patients who are in hospital longer than one week contract this disease. Patients do not break out in this infection simply because they are in hospital, instead it is due to the pathogen taking advantage of their broken defences (the reason they have been hospitalised, whether it be AIDs, cancer, burns or any other illness).
P. Aeruginosa has very few nutritional needs and can adapt itself to survive virtually in any environment. P. Aeruginosa ability to live in/on water, soils and human skin; results in hospital patience potentially being infected through ingestion (eating fruits and vegetables grown in contaminated soil, drinking contaminated water), bathing (contaminated water, bath tub surface or washing equipment), medical procedures (surgeon, equipment, dressings) and contact with contaminated surfaces.
P. Aeruginosa has a nature in which it can contaminate/infect everything with a broken defence that it comes in contact with, whilst it can also be spread easily, as it is extremely hard to kill or even weaken.
